We understand you might be feeling uncertain about your application to dBs. While it is too early to say what the situation will look like come September, we can alleviate any concerns you may have and inform you of the steps you can take to feeling more confident about your start with us.
We are here to help you in any way that we can, so should you still have questions please don't hesitate to reach out to us. If you'd like to get in touch you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, speak with us via our live chat on the dBs website which is available 9am - 5pm, Monday-Friday or call us on either 0117 325 9290 (Bristol) or 01752 210801 (Plymouth).
I’ve got an offer for September 2021. Will this still be honoured?
Yes, this will be honoured. We’re doing everything we can to enable us to reopen our doors in September 2021. There are contingencies in place and we will keep you informed of any changes that will affect you.
My exams have been cancelled. What does this mean for my application to dBs?
We’d like to reassure you that if your exams have been cancelled this isn’t the end of your chances to study with us. If you’re applying for one of our diploma courses, grades are being determined in a number of ways to limit the effect this has on your application.
Should you be applying for a degree-level course, we will be opening conversations with anyone affected by this situation to determine other ways to judge your eligibility for entry onto our programmes.
How can I stay up to date with my application process?
You can stay on top of the progress of your application using UCAS Track. If you’re struggling with any aspect of tracking your application, our admissions team will be more than happy to offer guidance.
Further information will be sent to you in the lead-up to the start of the academic year.
Will dBs be open by September 2021?
The English government has lifted the majority of pandemic restrictions and education providers are being encouraged to return to face-to-face provision.
At dBs, we are working hard to prepare our facilities for a full return to site-based activities in line with government guidance. We are updating our risk assessments and reviewing the mitigation measures that will remain in place to keep our students and staff safe, whilst delivering a full curriculum.
I’m really worried about how I will be impacted by COVID-19
We understand that you’re feeling very anxious and uncertain at this time. While we can’t guarantee anything, this situation is not permanent. Our admissions team is on hand via email, telephone or our website’s live chat should you wish to discuss your options and can give you all the support you need.
Should I still be trying to secure accommodation for a September 2021 start?
If you have firmed your place at any one of our centres we advise that you try to secure accommodation as soon as possible. Unfortunately, beyond the accommodation guides that any firmed applicants will have already received, we cannot provide any other support for finding housing. We recommend that students join the Class of 2021 Facebook group to discuss private housing options with other students.
Bristol in particular is very competitive and accommodation can fill up quickly. However, in light of the circumstances and after speaking with many of these companies ourselves, students are advised to contact them directly, as many rooms are now freeing up due to deferrals from other universities.
I was hoping to attend a dBs open day, but am now unable to do so. How can I find out more?
At the time of writing [July 2021], in-person open events have returned to our Plymouth centre and will be returning to Bristol (FE & HE) in the new academic year. If you would like to watch the recordings from our most recent set of online open events then please get in touch and we can supply you with a link.
To see what open events we have running in the near future you can visit https://www.dbsmusic.co.uk/open-days.
I want to apply to study this September. Are you still taking applications?
The application process has not changed in spite of the current climate and we are still taking applications. Should you need assistance with your application, please contact our admissions team.
Degree applications can be made through UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service). Please be aware that you need to submit your application before June 30th to maximise your chances of getting a place. Any applications received after this date will go into Clearing. You can also refer to our Guide to UCAS 2020/21 using the link here: https://www.dbsmusic.co.uk/guide-to-ucas
Applications for our diploma courses can be made via our online application form. Upon completion a member of our Admissions Team will be in touch.
Will student finance applications be affected?
Student Finance applications for 2021/22 are now open.
You can find guidance from the Student Loans Company online, including advice on making a new application and current processing times here.
I’d like to see the studios and facilities before I start. Can I still have a tour?
Yes you can! Tours for both our Plymouth and Bristol facilities returned in May 2021 and are open to anyone who would like to visit, but safety measures are still in place. Tours will be limited to one household, a maximum of 2 guests and all attendees must complete a COVID-19 Lateral Flow test within 24 hours of their intended slot and prove a negative result before gaining access.
