Creative sound design techniques for generating ideas with Kincaid

Producer, sound designer and music tutor Joe Arthur - aka Kincaid - joined us to share his creative sound design techniques for generating ideas for new tracks.

Joe Arthur, a sound designer, music producer and tutor who goes by Kincaid, joined our students at the dBs Institute Bristol campus to share his creative sound design techniques which help him generate new ideas.

Creative sound design for idea generation

The main thread that runs through Joe's tips is to start with texture when looking for new ideas. He does this by using rain samples, vinyl crackle, white noise and other harmonically-rich sounds that span the entire frequency spectrum.

Using these sounds as a base, Joe then adds layers of interest using tools from Unfiltered Audio and builds in kicks, bass and melody. Watch the video below for more of his creative sound design techniques.
