Charlotte Tucker and Noah Kleckham-Ager join the production team for The Joyous Thing #5; 48-hours of experimental music, talks, presentations and workshops across Plymouth.

On April 4th - 5th, The Joyous Thing #5 will take over multiple venues in Plymouth to celebrate experimental music. Devised by Outlands and KARST, the event is about providing an inclusive space for individuals who are working in or love experimental music to talk, dance, sign and socialise. Here's the full schedule:

Thursday 4th April

  • 17:00 - 18:00 | Turntabalism Workshop with NikNak, Leadworks
  • 19:00 - 23:00 | NikNak Live with support from I AM FYA, Leadworks

Friday 5th April

  • 12:00 - 16:00 | The Joyous Thing: Outlands Network member-led event, KARST
  • 16:00 - 17:00 | Vocal Improvisation Workshop with Dali de Saint Paul, KARST
  • 19:30 - 00:00 | Penumbra  with support from Jessica Beechey and DJ Beelzedub

As part of the event, Outlands is running the New Producers Mentorship Scheme, an initiative that aims to support two 18-25 year olds in their professional development in creative production and curation of experimental music and interdisciplinary performance. After successfully landing a place on the scheme, Charlotte Tucker (dBs) and Noah Kleckham-Ager (ACC) have been receiving mentoring from members of Outlands, attending production meetings and giving their inputs into the decision-making for the event.

The opportunity came as a result of Alex Kearney, our Outreach & Events Officer in Plymouth, who is also studying our MA Innovation in Sound degree. Alex's expertise with experimental live music will also see him close out the Friday night with a performance of his excellent Footwork set at KARST.
