dBs grad Owen Trick joins forces with Ed Sheeran for a special visit

We catch up with dBs Plymouth graduate and BFBS engineer Owen Trick in the wake of a special visit from perhaps Access Creative’s most famous alumnus, Ed Sheeran.

Back in 2022, Owen graduated from dBs Plymouth and made perhaps the biggest journey around the globe for his first graduate role. Joining the British Forces Broadcasting Service as a Broadcast Technician in the Falkland Islands, Owen made the transition to a base in Cyprus in the summer of 2023, where he now works as a Broadcast and Studio Engineer. He’s even worked in Nepal and Brunei in various capacities!

After seeing a selfie posted by Owen with Ed Sheeran, we had to find out more.

“Day to day, I help to facilitate the broadcast of live radio and distribution of tailored TV services to the armed forces community,” says Owen. “Whether that means I’m dish pointing and satellite finding, fixing our LAWO desks or simply supporting our fantastic local presenting teams.

“Often, I’ll work as part of a team to gather content and produce outside broadcasts, recently this gave me the opportunity to work with the MoD Media Ops team to document a visit of Ed Sheeran to British Forces here in Cyprus.

“It was brilliant to help facilitate such an excellent reward for this truly deserving community, especially as a forces child myself. I loved having the opportunity to put together, with the team, a small piece showing Ed’s visit here for which he took time out of his ‘Mathematics’ world tour.

“Speaking to him in between him meeting service personnel and performing a small acoustic set, it was obvious how much he values his fans as well as the military community and there were some truly touching stories to come out of the visit."
