We’re thrilled to announce the New Century Manchester Scholarship - which offers a student from Greater Manchester their course fees funded on our BSc (Hons) Live Sound degree!
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the New Century building, where the dBs Institute Manchester campus is based, we are working in partnership with New Century to offer one deserving student a scholarship for the BSc (Hons) Live Sound degree in Manchester, that will cover their course fees for the duration of the course starting September 2024.
Our BSc (Hons) Live Sound degree is one of our most practical and industry-focused degrees, with students working incredibly closely with industry professionals on a regular basis at gigs and festivals across the country. Specific to our Manchester campus, students will work in one of the best venues in the city - with globally recognised acts regularly gracing the stage and some of the best sound engineers in the business working behind the desk. As part of the course in Manchester, students will shadow New Century’s in-house sound engineer on rotation, so every student gets ample opportunity to cut their teeth in a real-world setting and under the tutelage of a seasoned pro.
Dom Kane, Head of Centre, dBs Manchester, said: “We’re proud to be collaborating with New Century to offer this exciting opportunity for one student to join us on the Live Sound degree this coming September. dBs is all about challenging conventions and pushing the boundaries in terms of sound, music and digital technology and we’re always excited to hear from passionate individuals. Working in this industry is for everyone. If you have the drive and enthusiasm to work in live events, we want to hear from you.”
Abby Moore from New Century said: “We’re really excited to be able to partner with dBs Institute to offer this place - the student community located in our basement is a key part of our ecosystem at New Century, and we are thrilled to be working together to ensure that careers in the live industry are for everyone. In this milestone year, we’re celebrating all the wonderful ways the building and Manchester has developed and grown in the past 60 years with live music and events still at its heart. This scholarship feels like the perfect way to celebrate the city’s incredible live music history, and look ahead to its exciting future.”
We’re particularly interested in hearing from prospective students who might not have felt able to apply for this course due to personal or financial reasons. We want to lift the barriers to access for people who have felt excluded from the opportunities that university can provide and this scholarship is designed to help us and New Century achieve that aim.
