Student Stories | dBs Plymouth students hit the stage in San Francisco

At the end of 2024, three dBs Plymouth students sent off the year in style with a special show in San Francisco. Here’s how it all happened…

Second year BA (Hons) Electronic Music Production student Si Littlewood has had quite the life in the music industry. Just a few months ago, we sat down with him to discuss how he came to be an exotic and sought-after presence in the San Francisco music scene. It’s a great story if you’d like to read the full piece.

The short story goes something like this. Si studied furniture manufacturing and restoration at Exeter College. After completing his studies he took a holiday to America, eventually settling in San Francisco to catch up with a friend there.

His carpentry skills made him an invaluable asset and he chose to stay indefinitely, later forming his own crew (Drift) and building stages for festivals such as Symbiosis Gathering and Burning Man. Couple that with his unique record collection and Si built up a formidable career in events that sustained him for over 20 years.

When the pandemic hit and his children were unable to attend school, Si made the decision to move his family back to Devon, where he happened upon dBs Plymouth and took the plunge back into education on the Access to HE: DJ & Electronic Music Production diploma before progressing onto the BA (Hons) Electronic Music Production degree.

It was here that Si met Dyllon (Martin) and Gabriel (Steel). Both Dyllon and Gabe produce and DJ drum and bass, with Dyllon also running events company Shape Up Sounds. Their shared tastes and Si’s extensive background in event promotion naturally brought the three together.

When Si began planning his annual San Francisco party to catch up with all his friends back in the US, who better to invite along to perform than Dyllon and Gabe.

This is the story of what happened next.
