Formed in Plymouth, dBs began life as a commercial studio running short courses before turning into the multi-campus, fully fledged music school it is today. That same commercial facility is still very much at the heart of dBs, with our Plymouth students regularly using our flagship Neve Genesys console and arsenal of classic gear.
Students at dBs Institute will get the opportunity to visit local studios, mastering houses, anechoic chambers and more. Plus world famous facilities like Abbey Road, Real World Studios are also recent trips. These visits to actual working studios and businesses in the music industry, combined with our dynamic, academic learning at dBs make us a unique proposition. We prepare students with the necessary skills and real-world working knowledge to get a head start in the world of music production.
As well as visiting professionals in their place of work, we also regularly bring in guest lecturers and hold music production and engineering masterclasses for students. Recently we've had audio engineers such as Ali Staton and Simon Gogerly, mastering engineers such as Abbey Road's Christian Wright and Alchemy Mastering's Matt Colton talk to students about what they do, and demonstrate firsthand, the techniques and practices they use as music industry professionals.
