Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.
SampleScience has released Abstract Crystal Pads, a free collection of 30 different samples that are perfect for soundtracks, ambient productions or some added atmosphere.
Regular readers and/or users of SampleScience should be familiar with what's to expect with a new free plugin; simple controls, low CPU-usage and a aesthetically pleasing UI. With Abstract Crystal Pads you'll find a great selection of new sounds that range from dreamy and atmospheric, to down-right unsettling.
Something that's a little different is the new permutations of how a SampleScience release can be used. Outside of its regular plugin format, you can now download a Decent Sampler version, which comes packaged with the same sounds but new controls. It also comes in Reason ReFill format as well Kontakt.
Each sounds great straight out of the box, but there's a plethora of parameters to be tweaked to refine and shape the final product. Abstract Crystal Pads definitely lends itself well to create off-kilter and washy ambiences, but there's also potential to use it as a basic sound design tool, particularly if you use it within Decent Sampler, which comes with different effects and sound-shifting capabilities.
Abstract Crystal Pads is available for Windows and macOS (VST/AU) and can be downloaded for free using the link below.
