Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.
What's better than a free plugin? One that's open-source and ripe for tweaking in any way you can imagine. That's exactly what the new Schrammel OJD plugin is; a modern overdrive pedal recreated as software.
Developed by Janos Schrammel, the OJD is released under a GPL-3.0 license and is still technically a beta version, but it's already a great freebie to add to your library. Featuring a sleek UI that mimics both the look and controls of its inspiration, you can create some solid overdrive tones in a matter of seconds.
If you're experienced with software development or want to have a crack at building this plugin yourself then all the necessary files can be found on the respective GitHub page: https://github.com/JanosGit/Schrammel_OJD
As of now, Schrammel OJD is available for both Windows and macOS (VST3, AU, 32 or 64-bit) and can be downloaded for free using the link below as well as the GitHub page link above.
At the time of writing the plugin is compatible with Logic Pro, Cubase, Reaper, Ableton Live and Magix Music Maker, with Pro Tools support incoming.
