From education to the audio industry - Meet the dBs graduates on our upcoming panel

On Thursday 10th June, six of our graduates will come together for a special online panel to share their experiences of transitioning from education to the audio industry.

Making the decision to study at university is an exciting time, but there's no shortage of anxiety surrounding how you bridge the gap between education and working in the real world once you graduate.

At dBs Sound & Music Institute, we're committed to helping as many of our students as possible walk straight into jobs after leaving us and constantly pushing for each of them to explore the wealth of opportunities that exist. To showcase this we're inviting six of our graduates to an online panel to share their unique paths into the audio industry, highlighting the challenges and achievements along the way.

Ahead of the panel, we wanted to introduce you to those six graduates so you can learn more a little more about their area(s) of expertise and even formulate some questions for during the panel.

Camila Milieme (The Lady Machine)

Pretty soon she realised that gigs weren't enough to satiate her and she made the move from Rio De Janeiro to Amsterdam to study a short course in Music Production. Not long after, she discovered dBs and moved to the UK to continue her journey in audio.

Since graduating, Cami has moved from the UK to Berlin and was recently signed to the illustrious Triangle Agency.

She is a resident DJ at infamous nightclub, Pornceptual, and owns her own vinyl-only record label, Unterwegs.

Originally studying the BA (Hons) Electronic Music Production degree at our Bristol campus, Harvey's love of hardware sampling, field recording and obscure sound sources gave rise to his unique brand of dub techno.

Over the years, he's accrued an exceptional back catalogue of vinyl-only releases across several labels, has gone on to teach at other institutions around the world, designed his own synth presets for Arturia and most recently was featured in Ableton's 'One More Thing' on YouTube.

Aaliyah Jade-Brown

Aaliyah Jade-Brown with a backdrop of the sun-soaked ocean - (From education to the audio industry)Aaliyah originally came to dBs as a songwriter keen to learn how to record and produce her own music, but during her time on the BA (Hons) Music Production & Sound Engineering degree her passion for using music as a positive force was sparked.

After graduating, Aaliyah spent a year training to become a music therapist, but as the pandemic hit and close contact becoming a thing of the past, she changed tracks and joined music publishing company Cream Collective. Her time at Cream Collective taught her about the world of licensing music for advertising, film and video games, and the legalities of how you can make money from your music through other sources.

In 2021, Aaliyah made the decision to return to her passion for music therapy and now runs music and mental health workshops in different schools in her community.
