Join dBs Plymouth MA student, producer and DJ Alex Kearney - aka Beelzedub - alongside a host of other artists and musicians at Cosmic Kitchen on Friday 7th June for a dance night that’s also a conceptual artwork.
Based on a project by Abigail Reynolds that Alex collaborated on recently, CORE is "an invitation to dance to the rhythms and sounds of a quarry."
It's a club night where dance music meets art and the sounds, "have been recorded from the quarry and sampled together to create musical masterpieces by a selection of live artists...The lost rhythm of the percussive drills is replaced by electronic beats created entirely from recordings made in the quarry. For the night Cosmic Kitchen will be filled with projections of the quarry holes, shot in 16mm."
Talking to us about the project, Alex said: "This project is the second iteration of an Art performance by Abigail Reynolds, the first was shown as part of FLAMM Art festival in Cornwall. It is made up of a sample pack, constructed from a collection of sounds recorded in a Cornish Quarry, where the original "Art Rave" was to be held, this second iteration of CORE brings the project to Cosmic Kitchen In Plymouth, where the tracks have been remade using the same quarry samples. dBs students were also given the sample pack to create something with. The event is on June 7th and will be an opportunity for the Music and Art scenes to meet and collaborate."
