VIDEO: Scott Wilson Masterclass | Experimental Multichannel Audio

Written by Chris Mackin | Jul 27, 2021 2:00:00 PM

Composer and electroacoustic expert Scott Wilson discusses his explorations into the world of experimental multichannel audio and his work as the director of B.E.A.S.T (Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre).

We don't need to tell you that seeing and hearing music performed live is a magical experience. Over the years, there have been countless practitioners exploring how sound could be delivered in a live forum to create new and immersive experiences, with particular emphasis placed on performances devoid of performers on stage.

In his masterclass, Scott takes us through the history of B.E.A.S.T and how it has evolved into one of the largest multichannel array systems in the world; using it's huge selection of speakers to both fill in for the absent performers but also explore how a venues unique qualities can change how a listener experiences a composition.

Elsewhere in his talk, Scott delves into the world of electroacoustic music; TUVAN music; Acousmonium; inter-aural cross correlation and ambisonics.
