Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.
Arturia's Augmented Strings Intro fuses high-quality samples with advanced synthesis to create some fantastic results.
Once again at Free Software Friday, time is against us on today's virtual instrument. Free until Saturday 30th April, Augmented Strings Intro is the first releases in Arturia's new 'Augmented' series of plugins.
Stylish yet simple, Augmented Strings Intro's interface features eight controls; Morph, Color, Time, Motion, Delay, Reverb, FX A, and FX B.
Morph is the star of the show, as you might expect from its footprint in the plugin's UI. Allowing you to move between the two layers of acoustic and synthesised sound, the transformation is immediate and multifaceted.
Color, Time and Motion control the macros of your sound; affecting parameters like filter cutoff, modulators and synth controls. Delay, Reverb and FX are the cherry on top and can be treated as the final stages of refining your custom sounds.
Don't let Augmented Strings' simple UI fool you, though. Arturia themselves claim that "over 60 articulations across double bass, cello, viola, and violin," were sampled for the instrument.
Augmented Strings Intro is available for Windows and macOS and can be downloaded for free here. An account with Arturia is required as well as downloading the Arturia Software Centre to activate the plugin.
