Free Software Friday - Chowdury DSP BYOD

Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.

Chowdury DSP has released BYOD (Build-Your-Own-Distortion); a fully customisable virtual distortion pedal.

BYOD is made up of four different modules to help create your custom pedal; bass cleaner, high cut, tube screamer and amp IRs. Chowdury DSP has used a variety of distortion and tone-shaping circuits to build BYOD's emulations, as well as several effects units. Any custom pedals that you create can then be saved as presets.

Besides the four modules are input/output sliders for gain staging, a wet/dry control for parallel processing, built-in oversampling, mono/stereo processing modes and an undo/redo function.

The plugin is super clean and colourful, and fully resizable, which makes it a great companion regardless of your resolution. As well as supporting AU, VST, VST3 and AAX formats, you can also use BYOD as a standalone application outside of a DAW. Best of all, none of those formats weigh in above 30MB.

BYOD is available for Windows, macOS, Linux and iOS and can be downloaded for free here
