VIDEO: Ben Glass on turning an idea into a major project

dBs Institute tutor and one half of Dubkasm, Ben Glass (aka Digistep) delivered an eye-opening masterclass on turning an idea into a major project.

The foundations of Ben Glass' love of music first began with his father's record collection; the only thing to join him on his journey from his native Brazil when moving to the UK. Those records and his father's tenacity for purchasing musical instruments sparked a passion in Ben for music and production, one that has only grown stronger over the years.

As part of the the internationally acclaimed Dubkasm, Ben and DJ Stryda's work has elevated them in the UK roots reggae scene, resulting in a long list of shows across the world. In 2018, the group would release 'Rastrumentals'; a seminal release for Dubkasm and one that brought together their love of roots reggae and the traditional sounds of Brazil.

In his masterclass, Ben takes us on a very personal journey that charts the inception, creation and release of 'Rastrumentals'. Though rooted in a very specific set of musical styles, the creative process and considerations that brought the album to life are universal in their applications and offer a fascinating insight into how even the most ambitious ideas can be realised.
